Project | 2008 | Vitoria-Gasteiz | A housing block should be aligned along a long road while leaving behind it a large public space, shared with the other buildings of the lot. The proposal avoids turning the building into a linear border and liberates the ground floor through high crossed porches. Thus it produces a physical connection and a great transparency between the public spaces of the street and the courtyard.
These connections also serve as places where residents can meet, walk and play with each other, even during the frequent rainy days.
The dwelling – despite its reduced size and the numerous, complex and restrictive Spanish regulations – seeks to maximize the possibilities of uses and living.
All services are grouped into a central module which, besides simplifying the dimensions and use of the installations and the construction elements, it frees up a large area, well lit, ventilated, interconnected and extremely flexible.
The bedroom partitions can be removed without compromising the privacy or efficiency of the housing unit.
For the exterior walls, we propose a continuous enclosure composed of a standard metal sheet. All the other elements, even the floors, are prefabricated. And there are only two types of openings throughout the building.
