Proyect | 2004 | Bilbao | The building groups together a competition rink for 2,000 spectators, a recreational rink, auxiliary sport program, public restaurant and 500 covered parking units. The plot is within a very dense 40's residential development so the new volume grows compacted and sculpted because of the nearby housings.
The wide leafy plaza
next to the building produces a great public space as a opened hall for the overflowed surroundings.
All the main façades are made of policarbonate diverging lenses. In broad daylight, lenses would spread exterior luminity all along the interior spaces and produce a white and shining atmosphere. On the contrary, using artificial lightining the lenses would shine to both sides -exterior and interiors- and the façade will be transformed into a irregular soft plane.
In both cases, lenses will deform the views allowing a certain grade of privacity to the users.
