Project | 2008 | Madrid | In a currently uninhabited area, away from any communication networks and without any use other than some makeshift landfills, a new district has been planned for the city.
A competition has requested the design of the first block of this district, whose timings and growth were still to be determined. Meanwhile, the first block alone must assume the configuration of a habitat.
The majority of the housing units occupy staggered buildings with a curved orientation that partially marks the wide exterior space. The buildings floats above the ground, which maintains its wavy an natural character. The dwellings are double oriented and have an open garden where, in addition, the access to each unit is made.
Inside the block, a hill of wood, whose bark houses offices and terraced houses, contains part of the commercial facilities. The rest of the program occupies another mound, now landscaped, in continuity with the surrounding soil.
The rooftops are used for athletic fields and flower gardens.
The design organizes a program of 1.700 housing units, public facilities, 15.000 m2 of office space and parking facilities for 2.000 vehicles.
