Built | 1997 | Zaragoza | Education | The Faculty of Sciences is an old award winning prestigious educational institution of the University of Zaragoza. The new building respects the historical pavilions and continues their efficient inner organization. In this way, the new building is placed parallel to one of the previous wings. A landscape area surrounded by pedestrian zones articulates the links to the original pavilions. These links make up a continuous space crossing the entire Faculty and merging into one the old entrance hall and the new lobby.
In order to avoid air conditioning, the both long facades of the new building are covered with metal slats. In the labs side, these slats create a secondary facade to produce emergency aisles. By the contrary, the offices side are just a metal lattice to protect these spaces from the Sun.
